Compassionate Wound Care Treatment
Wounds present for more than 6 weeks are considered chronic wounds and require evaluation by an expert in advanced wound care. Poor wound healing can result from multiple factors. Some of the more common are diabetes, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), varicose veins and infection.
Common wounds that require advanced treatment are diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers from artery or vein problems. A common wound in patients with limited mobility are pressure ulcers or bed sores. Advanced wound care treatment centers on identifying the underlying issues that are preventing normal healing and the use of techniques such as selective debridement; use of offloading orthotics and mattresses and specialized dressings that promote healing.
